Orange

The wonderfully fresh and warm scent of orange, the smell of summer.

The orange tree (Citrus auratium) belongs to the Rutaceae family and has its origin in China. This evergreen tree with spiky branches and sweet-smelling white flowers is loved by many. Before the Arabs took the orange tree to Spain and Portugal in the 15th century, the trees had been used in China for hundreds of years. Columbus, in turn, took the orange tree with him on his voyage of discovery. Between 1513 and 1565, the first orange grove was established in Florida.

Did you know that the orange is currently the most widely grown citrus fruit in the world?

Orange benefits

The scent of orange helps to clear airways. Ideal to shower with Orange & Calendula soap when you feel a cold coming on. In addition, it has a calming effect on many people. The fruit has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. For example, they use the dried peel against colds, coughs and even anorexia. But the use of the essential oil is also popular. The oils are extracted from the orange peels by means of steam. For 1 kg of essential oil you need about 200 kg of peels. This explains why essential oils are often very expensive. D-limonene is the driving force behind the typical orange smell and taste.

Rescued shells

Each Nature Bar soap is based on a ‘rescued product’. These are natural ingredients that are given a second life. Orange peels from the Ten Katemarkt were used for the Orange and Calendula soap. The peels are carefully washed, dried and ground into powder. So in addition to calendula leaves, you will also find pieces of orange peel in the soap bar.
